Dr. Rebecca S. Romero, Neurologist

Dr. Rebecca S. Romero, MD, FAAN, is a board-certified neurologist, renowned for her expertise in neuroimmunology and traumatic brain injury care. With over two decades of clinical experience, she has been at the forefront of diagnosing and managing complex neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica (NMO), and autoimmune encephalitis.

Dr. Romero earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2004, following a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Rice University. She completed her neurology residency and internal medicine internship at UT Health San Antonio and pursued a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Clinical Neuroimmunology at the University of Chicago.

Her academic career includes serving as an Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology and Associate Residency Program Director at UT Health San Antonio. In these roles, she led the Multiple Sclerosis and Clinical Neuroimmunology Clinic and mentored numerous medical students and residents. Dr. Romero has been recognized as a Texas Super Doctor and was named among San Antonio Magazine’s Best Doctors.

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Romero has contributed to several clinical trials focused on therapies for NMO and MS, including studies on eculizumab and satralizumab.

Fun fact about Dr. Romero: She started competing in powerlifting and strongman several years ago and has won second place in novice women’s and two first places in the master’s women category.
